The duo behind the Urbanica hotel brand has filed plans for a new boutique hotel on a vacant oceanfront lot in North Beach. Diego Colmenero and Charlie Porchetto who purchased the property for $38 million last summer are asking the Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board to approve the design for an 11-story building at 6747 Collins Avenue. If approved, Urbanica The Beach will have 209 rooms and a restaurant/bar.
Urbanica has made a big investment in Miami Beach in recent years, first with The Meridian and Euclid Hotels. Now under construction, The Fifth Hotel. All three are within blocks of each other in South Beach. There is also a hotel under construction in Miami and two operating in Buenos Aires.
